The Leyend of

Agustin de Iturbide

It is said that when Don Agustín stayed here — already as Emperor — he never slept more than four hours. He used the small private fountain in his patio to wet his hands and chase away sleep while he plotted. Legend has it that the tapestry above the bed’s headboard is not just decorative; it’s a copy of the abdication letter he never dared to sign, with the names of his enemies embroidered in gold thread.

The myth says that if you sit on the bed at midnight with a great worry in your mind (something like, “Should I pay the rent or buy some beers?”), the water in the patio fountain begins to sound like the drums of war, always advising the boldest choice — though not always the wisest.
