The Leyend of

Alarife y Cornelo

The Alarifes and their assistants, like Master Cornelio, were the true stonework magicians of the Viceroyalty.

It’s said that the Marquis paid them with specially marked coins that only they could use to buy wine in the Historic Center. Legend has it that in the hollow of the wall — right where the ochre paint meets the brick — there’s a hidden blueprint with a secret code. It wasn’t for treasure, but for the exact calendar predicting when the Aqueduct would fail for the first time — something only Cornelio, the most distrustful of them all, dared to leave behind as a warning.

If you’re struggling with a complicated work problem, the solution might appear to you upon waking, as a gift from these old masters. But if you leave a loose screw or a crooked piece of furniture in the room, you can bet that Cornelio’s spirit will give you a good tug on the ear at midnight.
